Grab your drop spindle or spinning wheel and come spend a Sunday morning spinning wool!

Spin with Ewe is held the first Sunday of each month at Nash Lake Fiber Farm, hosted by Theresa (Get Bentz Farm) and Amy (Nash Lake Fiber Farm). At each event, they’ll provide fiber for spinners to play with and a specific theme of focus, as well as education regarding the theme and technique tips for spinning and finished garments. Materials are sourced locally as much as possible, knowing sometimes we can't get it here. Information and fun stories about the adventures we had finding the fiber are also provided.

June- Mohair…What the heck?

We will talk about Mohair, why I think its snazzy, and why too much of it can be a royal pain. we will discuss why some are Mohair adverse and others are totally in camp Mohair. This will be a super fun class for people excited about learning about the properties of Mohair. This class would totally suck big time if you are allergic to Mohair, just don’t sign up if you are.

Join Get Bentz Farm & Nash Lake Fiber Farm each first Sunday of the month from 1-4pm. This is an open event, come when you come, and bring a fiber project to work on. This event aims to build our fiber community, support and grow our trades and crafts, and get help from others if needed. Bring your needles, hooks, looms, and wheels, and spend time together this winter.

We ask for a suggested donation of $10 to cover heat costs and beverages. We will have a donation box out at the farm during the event. We want to ensure this opportunity is accessible to everyone.

**NOTE: JULY SPIN WITH EWE IS JULY 9TH FROM 2-4PM

We will discuss colonial women spinning for liberty after the British government passed taxation on colonists for imported goods back in 1767. What did the badass American women do? They took to the streets with their spinning wheels and told the British to F- off! in this class, we will spin a variety of fibers that would make a bitching shawl.

August- Spin your sock

Fall is on the way which means we will need to trade our sandals for some warm woolen socks. This class will include a variety of blends and wools that make the perfect, long-lasting, farm girl socks. We will talk about different breeds that were chosen as well as why some fibers were added. We will also discuss ply, twist per inch, and how to make those hand spun socks last and last.

September- They left what there?

Sometimes people leave their junk at my mill, or they never pick up an order. So lets spin it! Don’t feel bad, the people have been notified and given ample time to get it, and at this point it is a massive financial loss to the farm. This way the stuff gets used and I can tell some pretty funny stories about the whole confusing mess.

November- Lamb, Ram, and Ewe!

This is an opportunity to see the difference between a ram fleece, a lamb, and a ewe. You will spin a few from multiple breeds to discover the difference. It is a great class for anyone who may be interested in purchasing fleeces in the future because those ram fleeces sure can stink sometimes!

Learn to Ply

Learn to Ply with Lindsey

Date: Saturday, May 18th 12:30-1:30 (will follow Spin With Ewe)

Location:  Nash Lake Fiber Farm

Cost: $15

Do you have single bobbins you'd like to ply, or would you like to sample fiber without using multiple bobbins?  Join us for an hour of plying techniques from a single bobbin.  We will systematically go over how to construct a 2 ply yarn with a center pull ball and the Andean technique.  Taking it one ply further, we will chain ply (creates a 3 ply yarn). 

The two ply yarns are good techniques for a wheel or spindle.  Chain plying is quicker on a wheel, but can be accomplished on a spindle.  Beginner friendly.  Bring your spinner, singles, and a lazy kate if you have one. If you don't have them or don't know what they are, sign up anyway.  We will have a couple of wheels and lazy kates to use and singles yarn will be available to purchase. Beginner friendly. Fiber Fun @ the Farm

Monthly event with TRF Steward Autumn Larch Farm

An open house from 3-7 each 3rd Thursday of the month at Autumn Larch Farm. Gather to work on your own fiber projects, learn from one another about fiber and natural dyes and enjoy good conversation! The Autumn Larch Farm studio shop will be open for purchases of locally grown and milled yarn and roving during the event.

*Note: An option to join virtually is always available from 5-6:30 pm with advance notice so a link to join can be sent to you. If interested, contact Jane at autumnlarch@gmail.com.

Sunday Funday @ Nash Lake Fiber Farm

Join Get Bentz Farm & Nash Lake Fiber Farm each first Sunday of the month from 1-4pm. This is an open event, come when you come, and bring a fiber project to work on. This event aims to build our fiber community, support and grow our trades and crafts, and get help from others if needed. Bring your needles, hooks, looms, and wheels, and spend time together this winter.

We ask for a suggested donation of $10 to cover heat costs and beverages. We will have a donation box out at the farm during the event. We want to ensure this opportunity is accessible to everyone.
